Overview:
The Outreach Mentoring Program (OMP) is designed to support students who are "at risk" academically. The program is a coordinated team effort among student, teachers, administrators, counselors, and parents to meet the needs of a student in academic jeopardy at Archbishop Spalding High School.
Program Bases:
The ultimate success of students lies within themselves. Students are encouraged to change their thinking with regard to school, courses, and academic tasks. A responsible attitude is an integral component of the achievement equation for the student when applying proven strategies for success.
Process for Participation:
Guidance counselors, school administrators, teachers or parents may refer students
Classroom teachers complete Criteria Checklists for referred student
Criteria Checklist determine student's academic needs
The Outreach Mentoring Committee reviews the Criteria Checklist to determine if the student will benefit from participation in the program
Team Members
Students:
Evaluate themselves as learners
Participate in formal evaluations
Commit to behavior modification plan
Attend mentoring sessions
Attempt the suggested interventions or strategies
Parents:
Vital team members
Attend monthly team meetings
Discuss and sign weekly progress reports
Support their son/daughter's action plan
Participate in reward plan
Teachers:
Volunteer to participate as mentor
Meet weekly with student
Receive and discuss student's weekly progress reports
Provide guidance and intervention strategies
Attend monthly team meetings
Student Responsibilities:
Desire to improve academic performance
Attend mentoring sessions
Contract for monthly behavioral modifications
Participate in weekly progress reports
Develop an action plan to achieve individual goals
