PROFICIENCY TESTING for the class of 2014
Algebra Proficiency Test
If indicated on the course placement form you will receive on Registration Day, March 6th, you must sign up for the Algebra Proficiency test. This test is for students who will have (by the end of 8th grade) completed a full year Algebra I (not Pre-Algebra) or Geometry course.
- These tests will be held March 16th and March 18th at 3:15 p.m. and take approximately 40 minutes.
- Please sign up for one of these days if Proficiency test is checked on your form.
- Students need bring only a (at least one) #2 pencil.
- Calculators are not permitted. Scratch paper will be provided.
When you arrive for the Math test you should enter through the new main entrance facing the athletic fields (on the left as you enter from New Cut Road).
Foreign Language Proficiency Tests
Any student interested in taking a foreign language course at any level (other than first year Latin) must sign up for a Foreign Language Proficiency Test. The tests will be offered for all languages on March 16th & 17th at 3:15 p.m. A placement test is also mandatory for students of Latin who wish to take Latin II.
The test will begin at 3:15 and will take approximately 40-45 minutes to complete.
When arriving for the Foreign Language test please enter through the new main entrance of the school (facing the athletic fields).
Please note! Students taking both Foreign Language and Math proficiency tests will need to come on two separate afternoons.
Shadow Days
Parents should complete the Shadow Registration/Request to arrange "shadow" visits. Applicants currently in 8th grade should schedule visits prior to the March deadline for commitment. Parents of 7th grade students can schedule visits in the spring. Applicants to transfer into grades 10 or 11 can schedule visits at any convenient time.
APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION Application to Freshman Year
All applicants must submit the Application for Admission, responses to the Applicant Questionnaire and $100 application fee.
Applicants from schools other than elementary/middle schools of the Archdiocese of Baltimore must also submit the Release of Records and Academic Recommendation forms to their middle school. The minimum requirement is one Academic Recommendation from a teacher (in a major academic subject) who has taught the applicant in the last two years.
All applicants for freshman year must take the Archdiocesan Admissions/Placement test (the HSPT) in 8th grade. There is no pre-registration unless special accomodations are being requested. Accomodation Request
Personal meetings/Interviews are optional for applicants to 9th grade. Transfer applicants
Students applying for transfer to grades 10 or 11 do so with the knowledge that there is a pool of applicants waiting for each grade. When openings arise all applicants whose files are up to date will be given equal consideration. Transfer students are not accepted after the summer prior to Junior year. Exceptions may be considered for students moving to the area.
Transfer applicants must submit the Application for Admission, Applicant Questionnaire and $100 Application fee.
Release of Records and Academic Recommendation forms must be submitted to the applicant's current school.
Applicants to grades 10 and 11 must schedule a Personal Meeting/Interview with the Director of Admissions.
Applicants for transfer do not take the Admissions/Placement test.
