Freshmen Scholarships (awarded by Archbishop Spalding High School)

Academic
Archbishop Spalding High School awards academic scholarships to students entering grade nine. Initial qualification for these scholarships is based on performance on the admissions/placement test, academic records, and recommendations. Students who qualify are then contacted and invited to compete for recognition. Criteria for final selection will include performance in an essay competition; academic achievement; personal, academic, and extra-curricular recommendations; and the level of involvement in the community, school, and service-related activities.

Leadership
The first principal of the school now known as Archbishop Spalding High School was Sister Lucidie, a Sister of Notre Dame de Namur. When the foundress of the Sisters of Notre Dame, Marie Rose Julie Billiart, was canonized by Pope Paul VI in 1969 he said "We do not create, we do not confer saintliness; we recognize it, we proclaim it!" Pioneer Leadership Scholarships recognize and proclaim the outstanding good works, leadership, and pioneering spirit of students entering grade 9. Any applicant to freshman year, who wishes to be considered for a leadership scholarship, must submit the scholarship application and essay by the  Application for Admission deadline. Interviews can be scheduled after the scholarship application has been submitted.
