Archbishop Spalding has access to an extensive network of quality sports medicine healthcare providers to refer to in a timely manner as needed.
Dr. Jeffrey Mayer with MedStar Sports Medicine serves as Spalding’s team physician and works out of two convenient, local offices.
If an athlete sees an outside physician or goes to an urgent care/ER for any injury or illness,
they must bring medical documentation to the athletic trainers to return to play. Documentation should include a diagnosis and specify whether there are any athletic restrictions or if the athlete is fully cleared to return. Spalding’s athletic trainers manage and supervise the return to play of all student-athletes after an injury/illness in collaboration with the treating healthcare providers. This process ensures Spalding’s athletes are fully recovered and able to return to play at their highest level.
Requirements for Athletic Participation:
Athletes must submit an annual physical prior to the start date of their sport. Please see the link on this page titled "Important Health Information for the 2025-2026 School Year" for more details.
All students must have this information completed by August 1st .
All forms must be uploaded directly to August Schools via the Spalding Portal - paper or emailed copies will not be accepted.
Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions or concerns regarding sports medicine.
